Delay Due to Grad School Open Houses

Hi everyone. Sorry for yet another delay. I’m currently visiting graduate schools on the east coast (U Mass Amherst and Stony Brook University). I expected to have consistent internet access the last few days, but I have had almost no internet access and very little time to access the internet anyway. As such, my post may be delayed as late as Wednesday. I will get it up online this week though.

Because I’ve spent three weekends in a row visiting various schools or going to conferences, I’m quite behind on my work. This might mean that my posts will be sort of short for the next few weeks. I’ll try and get back up to speed within the month, though. Sorry about that!

  1. Hey Jonah!
I don’t know if this is what you ran into, but when we were at BNL, we found it almost impossible to get internet access on Long Island except at the lab where you had to be approved and at Stony Brook, who would give all comers a four hour per day guest account, (which is very nice as far as universities go). Beyond that, we located one coffee shop in Shoreham that had wifi and that was about it. It was an odd sort of experience.

    1. Hey Hamilton! Yes, I had a very similar experience at both Stony Brook and at U Mass Amherst. I think it’s just one of the costs of visiting another school. It sure feels crippling, though! I’m used to being connected almost 24/7.

      1. I lived in Boulder a few years back and it’s wifi nirvana compared to the East Coast. Between Laughing Goat, Book End, the wash your own dog cafe, and just about any other place on Pearl St., I almost never worked at home.

        1. Boulder definitely is wifi rich. It’s great! It also helps to have user account with your school’s IT department, which prospective students didn’t get.
